After 10 years, anong petsa na ba?
Sa tingin niyo naging busy ba ako? Parang hinde... Sobrang tinatamad lang talaga ako... At ngayon, ginanahan lang ako dahil may mahalaga akong balita na dapat ay malaman ninyo...
As you may have known, or heard, the administration of the MAPUA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY is planning on changing the institution's name from the historical
MAPUA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY to MALAYAN COLLEGE. (For details quoting the announcement

I feel terrible just hearing the word Malayan... I can't believe how dumb and stupid and idiotic and airheaded and simpletonic(dunno if this is a word but just to put it) and anything that is related to being a moron, the YGC is. Haven't they figured it out yet? How can they decide on that when the moment they change the institute's name, we, the students -- the cutomers, the consumers, the buyers, the client, the patient, and whatsoever -- will definitely despise them, or worse not patronize them, risking their goal of making the institute their form of business, which they have started 3 years ago with the Quarter System. What's the risk, you ask? Well, for starters, more than a quarter of the new incoming freshmen have already withdrawn their application to enroll because they knew that they were to enroll at Mapua Institute of Technology and not at the Malayan Colleges. How can the YGC just throw away an 80 year legacy?
Another thing, the reason why they wanted to change the name was because they opted to have a school of international excellence, or at least an international sound to it. Are they even thinking? I don't think so! If they have planned all these out, why havent they spotted a hole in the balloon? That hole, my dear readers, would have to be the students. I believe that to achieve international excellence, a school must not only have excellent professors but also great students, or at least an average student. How can you claim this excellence if you won't have any students? Okay, we admit that one of the reasons why we studied in Mapua was because of the name itself. Big companies prioritize those who graduate in Mapua. If the name was changed, how would anybody recognize the Mapuan identity which has long lived for 80 years? Besides, the institution can still achieve international excellence with Mapua as its name.
There are so many questions that need to be answered. And these questions were again and again asked at the silent protest made yesterday, February 14, 2005, by wearing a black shirt, symbolizing our grief, not for us Mapuans, but for the YGC who are nonetheless commiting a suicide with their critically unwise decisions and moronic actions. Today, we have started to boycott the YGC and its allies. Starting today, February 15, 2005 until tomorrow, February 16, 2005, true-blooded Mapuans are to avoid going inside the campus. There will be no classes until tomorrow, and on Thursday, February 17, 2005, Mapuans -- current students of Mapua, alumni, and concerned parents, faculty, friends, and colleagues, will join hand-in-hand for a massive strike at the walls of Intramuros.
Please support us in this struggle to retain the name Mapua in Mapua Institute of Technology. Visit
The NO to Malayan University Online Petition and sign the petition. As of today, there are already more than 10,000 signatories who signed the petition and a fraction of that thousands of signatures were from students of different schools who were very supportive, so please, help us, or at least pray for us and our actions.
